Guide
The key pointers for choosing a material according to the look you want and the piece you are making.
| Material | The look | Ideal for | Good to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| Natural stones | Unique colours and veining: every bead is different | Bracelets, necklaces, everyday jewellery | A large part is selected and shaped in our partner workshops in Jaipur |
| Mother-of-pearl | Iridescent reflections, often irregular shapes | Delicate necklaces, earrings | A material of animal origin: protect it from perfume and creams |
| Bohemian glass | Fire-polished pressed glass, bold colours | Clusters, earrings, colourful jewellery | Made in the Czech Republic, 0.8 to 0.9 mm hole |
| Miyuki | Small, very uniform Japanese beads | Bead weaving (peyote, brick stitch), fine bracelets | Woven with fine nylon thread and a beading needle |
| 24K fine-gold plated metal | A warm, luminous gold | Spacers, finishing touches, touches of light | Plating needs protecting: avoid water, perfume and creams |
| Stainless steel | Plain steel or 18-carat gold plating | Affordable everyday jewellery | Won't rust or tarnish |
| Acrylic and vinyl heishi | Bright colours, very light material | Colourful bracelets, big beads | Their lightness avoids heavy jewellery |
| Wood | Raw or painted natural wood, warm look | Long necklaces, macramé, nature-inspired jewellery | A living material: avoid water |
Always check the hole: the hole diameter is stated on each product page. Choose your thread accordingly: elastic for stretch bracelets, nylon thread or beading wire with crimp beads for designs with a clasp, Griffin silk thread for knotted necklaces, Linhasita thread for macramé.

Choosing well
Two complementary ranges for two uses. Our pendants and findings in 24K fine-gold plated brass are made in Europe, nickel- and lead-free, REACH compliant. Brass has been the material of jewellery for centuries: we have worked with our European manufacturers for more than 10 years, to champion and preserve this craftsmanship.
Stainless steel is the answer for everyday jewellery: it won't rust or tarnish, and stays affordable.

Natural stones bring the material: every bead is unique. Bohemian glass beads are made of Czech glass, for colour and sparkle. Miyuki beads are small, very uniform Japanese beads, made for bead weaving. Metal beads act as spacers and add rhythm to a design. They all mix beautifully together.
The bead diameter and its hole diameter are stated on each product page. Then choose the thread: 0.5 to 0.8 mm elastic depending on the hole for a stretch bracelet, nylon thread or beading wire with crimp beads for a design with a clasp, silk thread for a knotted necklace, fine nylon thread for Miyuki bead weaving.
Yes. Our stones are chosen by our team, with Sébastien, co-founder of Perles Corner, certified in gemmology. A large part is selected and shaped in our partner workshops in Jaipur, India. The material is stated on each product page.
No: mother-of-pearl is a material of animal origin, formed inside certain shells. It offers iridescent reflections and often irregular shapes. Protect it from perfume, creams and household products. Discover our mother-of-pearl collection.
