To start, hold the ring on the side with a flat plier. Place it in the slot corresponding to its thickness. Position the opening of the ring at the edge of the ring's slot.

Then make a lateral movement to open the ring.

Make the reverse movement to close it.

Be careful, it is still preferable to check and adjust the closing of the rings in the traditional way using two flat pliers.
