Odd Peyote Weaving

Do you want to start Peyote weaving?
With this tutorial, learn how to make odd Peyote weaving, ideal for bracelets, pendants, and other creations with Miyuki beads.
If you are a beginner, we recommend starting by mastering even Peyote, which is simpler to understand the method.
Let's go!

For this technique you will need:

 Miyuki delica beads
 a needle
 nylon thread

Step 1:

To begin, cut a nylon thread and string it onto a beading needle.

Then string an odd number of beads, leaving some thread at the start to finish the weaving.

Step 2:

Next, string a new bead to start the second row.

Pass through the second to last bead of the first row, then string a new bead.

Follow the diagram to see the thread path.

Gradually, you just need to place a bead in the gaps of the previous row.

Step 3:

Then thread the last bead of the row and pass through the bead below.

Step 4:

Bring the needle up through the beads diagonally as in the diagram.

Step 5:

Then pass through the bead below...

Step 6:

As in the diagram, come out in the last bead of the previous row...

Step 7:

To finish, go back through the top bead and thread the following beads as in step 2.

Continue the weaving by following the previous steps.

And there you go! Beautiful creations!

What to do if I need to lengthen my thread?

If your thread is too short to finish the weaving, first make sure to keep about 15cm of thread. Then pass the thread through the previous beads following a path that can go diagonally to jump from one row to another.

Thread a new thread then go back through the previous rows diagonally to lock the new thread and come out where you left off.

How to finish the weaving?

In Peyote stitch, there is no knot to start or finish the weaving. To finish the weaving, go back through the beads and previous rows in several directions so that the thread locks the beads.

Do the same with the starting thread.

Then to finish, you can either glue your weaving onto a rigid cuff or onto a leather band, or place a clasp for weaving. For this, you will need to make a new row to adapt it to the clasp.

And there you go!
