The steps

Prepare the chain and string the beads

Cut the desired length of chain. Here I made a 45 cm necklace.

To string the beads more easily, cut a piece of 0.4 mm brass wire about 15 cm long and fold it in half. Pass it through the last link of the chain: you’ll get a kind of makeshift needle. Thread a bead onto the brass wire — it will then slide naturally onto the chain. Position the first one wherever you want.

Secure the beads on the chain

With the reamer, gently spread the chain link at the point where you want to position the bead. Then place the bead and spread the link on the other side to hold it in place. The slightly opened link prevents the bead from sliding. Repeat the process for each bead, checking the spacing between them.

Attach the clasp and extension chain

Attach the lobster clasp to one end of the chain by opening the ring located at the base of the clasp. At the other end, attach the extension chain using an oval ring and flat pliers. The necklace is adjustable thanks to the extension.

Perles Corner tips
If a bead does not fit onto the chain, do not force it; some natural beads do not have very regular holes. Take a new bead and test it.

Make sure to choose a sufficiently fine chain and beads with a suitable hole.

Use the reamer to slightly widen the links as soon as you have a very fine chain where it seems impossible to pass a ring through. Turn gently while pressing without forcing — the hole will gradually widen. This way you won't put pressure on the ring, which could weaken.
