The steps

Prepare the chain and string the beads

Cut the desired length of chain. Here I made a 45 cm necklace.

To string the beads more easily, cut a piece of 0.4 mm brass thread about 15 cm long and fold it in half. Pass it through the last link of the chain: you get a kind of improvised needle. Thread a bead onto the brass thread — it then naturally slides onto the chain. Position the first bead where you want it.

Block the beads on the chain

With the reamer, gently spread the chain link where you want to position the bead. Then place the bead and spread the link on the other side to hold it in place. The slightly opened link prevents the bead from sliding. Repeat the operation for each bead, checking the spacing between them.

Attach the clasp and extension chain

Attach the lobster clasp to one end of the chain by opening the ring located at the base of the clasp. At the other end, attach the extension chain. using an oval ring and flat pliers. The necklace is adjustable thanks to the extension.

Perles Corner tips
If a bead doesn’t fit on the chain, don’t force it; some natural stones don’t have very regular holes. Take a new bead and test.

Make sure to choose a chain fine enough and beads with a suitable hole.

Use the reamer to slightly widen the links as soon as you have a very fine chain where it seems impossible to pass a ring. Turn gently while pressing without forcing — the hole gradually enlarges. This way you don’t strain the ring which could weaken.
