As spacers between round beads, in rhythm in a bracelet of seed beads, or as a small accent on earrings: their slim thickness makes them easy to place. The approximately 1.1 mm hole lets a fine cord or elastic thread pass through. For a larger project, a full thread of about 148 beads is also available.

A little gemology: unlike translucent chalcedony, jasper owes its opacity to its grainy structure and the minerals it contains, clays and iron oxides. Here, hematite gives it its red color; goethite, another iron oxide, shifts some jaspers toward yellow or brown. With a hardness of 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale, a density close to 2.6, and a conchoidal fracture, it resists scratches and wear well. Already carved into seals and amulets in ancient Egypt, red jasper is among the oldest ornamental stones worked by humans.

In lithotherapy: a stone of the root chakra, red jasper is said to encourage grounding and vitality. It is also attributed a protective role, which has made it a talisman stone since antiquity.
