These rich colors give character to choker necklaces, stacked bracelets, and cluster earrings; they stand out beautifully on both silver and gold. For a softer look, the same tourmaline is available in a selection of gentle tones. Hole about 0.7 mm: plan for a fine nylon thread or a suitable cable.
A bit of gemology: under the name tourmaline lies a family of aluminum borosilicates with very variable chemistry. The vivid tones of this strand are typical of elbaite, the lithium-bearing species of the group, which crystallizes in the trigonal system. With a hardness of 7 to 7.5 on the Mohs scale and a density of about 3.1, it is a sturdy stone well suited to everyday wear. Tourmaline is also pyroelectric: when heated, it becomes electrically charged and attracts dust, which earned it the nickname aschentrekker, “ash drawer,” from 18th-century Dutch merchants for cleaning pipes. It is found notably in Brazil, Mozambique, Nigeria, and Afghanistan.
Good to know: tourmalines with saturated colors often show small natural inclusions visible under magnification; they are proof of the stone's authenticity. Simply clean with a soft cloth, without an ultrasonic bath.
In lithotherapy: multicolor tourmaline is associated with the heart chakra, and more broadly with all the chakras through the diversity of its colors. It is credited with balancing, joy, and creativity.
The strand you will receive: we have selected only two strands in these intense tones. The strand you receive will be one of those shown in the photo, with the same color intensity; only the order of the beads varies.
100% natural product: the size, shape, shade, and number of beads may vary slightly from one strand to another. Dimensions and quantities are given for guidance only.
