Guide - Prepare Your Creation

In this article, we give you some essential points to address before bringing your creation to life.

Creation To do List:

Writing a few words like a specifications document can help you realize your creative project and thus identify the strengths and weaknesses where you will need to deepen your research.
Take this little moment to put words down, define your priorities and thus facilitate the development of your future creation...

Your inspiration?

What is the trigger for your creation? Analyze the starting point to refocus on the essential and go straight to the point without scattering and losing the soul of your project.
A material, a shape, a person, a movie, a painting or a technique... Imagine that you create for a specific person (a friend, a celebrity, yourself ...) can help you project yourself.

What type of jewelry?

Necklace, Earrings, Flexible or rigid Bracelet, Ring, Choker, Brooch ...

Small series of jewelry to market, a unique piece for you or to start a collection.

Desired atmosphere and style, ethnic, minimalist, contemporary, bohemian, romantic, graphic, floral ....

Which technique will be used?

What are the most appropriate techniques for your project? Weaving, assembling, braiding... Can this influence the shape or the realization of your project?

Does it require a particular assembly, crucial steps not to miss to start the rest of the assembly, special tools, useful time for completion...

Taking the time to think about the assembly can help you build the project. It allows you to visualize the necessary elements, the methodology, feasibility, problems to overcome... This little reflection time can save you a lot later.

Why this creation?

A commission, a piece from a new collection, just for pleasure. It is important to know before starting a piece if it will be intended for sale or for personal use. If it must be reproduced in several copies, you will not necessarily use the same assembly technique and/or the same materials...

Which materials?

Beads, threads, common or precious metal, ceramic... Natural or synthetic materials, leather, semi-precious stones, glass beads... Fabrics, cords, wood, plexi-acrylic...

The budget?

It is very important to define your budget. This will allow you to know which elements to use and the type of assembly needed for the realization.

If this project is a commission, carefully calculate the prices of your raw materials relative to the selling price and your working time, which often will not be fully compensated. A creative project takes time and the realization can take longer than initially imagined.

Your budget will be defined by the type of pieces made and the selling price. Pieces in precious metals or with nobler materials will have a higher selling price that can better cover the working time.

All this is carefully considered beforehand so that there is coherence between the purchase price, the working time, the cost of packaging and communication, and the selling price.

A less common piece, with a special technique, or very in tune with fashion and trends can sell better and more easily.

Useful time for completion?

This will inevitably impact the complexity of the project and its selling price.

It is very important to estimate it beforehand especially in the case of pieces to be reproduced in series.
