Tubular Herringbone Weaving

Herringbone = Chevrons is a weaving technique that consists of placing 2 beads at the same time... naturally they will form a herringbone pattern. The result is a pretty tube, as flexible as a string of beads...

This is a fairly simple weave that can be used to create necklaces, bracelets, earrings, etc.

This technique is used with Miyuki Délica, Rocailles, 11/0 and 15/0 beads, cubes... Each bead will give a different finish and look!

Here's beads you!

You will need :
A choice of beads Weaving thread A beads needle A beads rug

Making the first row :

To begin, thread 4 beads onto the needle.

Then go back to the first 2 beads.

Naturally, the beads are placed in a square.

Then go back to the last 2 beads.

String 2 new beads, then thread through the previous 2 beads before threading through the last 2 beads.

Continue until all the beads have been placed...

You can make a tube of at least 4 beads for a thin tube (as in the photo of the necklace above) or increase the size of the tube by adding more beads.

In the end, you must have an even number of beads!

To make it easier to read, we've alternated 2 colours. Here the row starts with 4 turquoise beads and ends with 4 pink beads.

Tube production :

Once the correct size has been achieved, close the tube...

Bring the first 2 beads (turquoise) towards the last 2 (pink).

Pass the needle through the first 2 beads and then through the last ones.

This will form a loop in the beads which will block the tube.

Make the next row...

Thread 2 beads, then pass the needle through the right-hand bead in the row below.

Pull it up into the bead next to it. Tighten the wire securely.

String 2 new beads and repeat the operation to lock them in place.

You'll see that the beads are positioned in a chevron pattern. This is normal, so don't try to position them straight. Just let them sit naturally.

Continue fitting until you reach the desired length.

If you need to make a connection :

Stop the weaving thread by starting again in the beads below. Choose a line of aligned beads, then tie a knot by passing between 2 beads and then back through the loop created. Tighten well then cut the thread.

To restart a new thread, pass through a row of beads, then pass between 2 beads, form a loop, pass the needle through the loop again and tighten properly.

Go back through a row of beads and repeat the operation for greater safety.

Work your way up a row of vertical beads to emerge in the right pearl.
