Mother-of-pearl hoop earrings woven with gold thread

Creoles gilded in 24K gold and adorned with mother-of-pearl beads woven with gold thread. Two versions to choose from: a pure 100% mother-of-pearl line or a "gem spiral" version, where fine natural stones slip between each pearl to create a luminous relief.
A quick and easy step-by-step guide, ideal for getting started while achieving a professional finish, with a list of equipment and our tips.

You will need :

creoles gilded with 24K fine gold
0.4mm wire gilded with 24K fine gold
mother-of-pearl beads
2mm natural stone beads

Tools to be used :

jewellery clips

Assembly:

For the mother-of-pearl only version, cut a brass wire approximately 40cm long.

Attach one end of the thread to the hole in the creole. Pass the thread through the hole twice, then cut the excess off flush.

Thread a pearl, place it on the edge of the creole and make 2 turns with the thread to secure it. Make the thread turns right at the edge of the bead.

Repeat the operation until you have dressed the entire creole. Normally you should place around 16 beads.

To finish, wind the thread 2 turns around the edge of the last pearl, then pass the thread between the pearl and the creole. Wrap the thread tightly around the thread coming out of the pearl. Trim the excess flush.

For the mother-of-pearl and spiral gems version, cut a brass wire approximately 80cm long.

Pass the thread through the hole in the creole, fold the thread in 2 to see where the creole is. Twist the thread again to secure it.

One thread will be used to mount the mother-of-pearl as before. The other thread will be used to mount the small natural beads.

Repeat the previous steps to attach all the mother-of-pearl beads.

Then thread the natural beads onto the second thread. To find out how many beads to thread, multiply your number of mother-of-pearl beads by 8, as we will place 8 beads per curve and therefore per pearl. For example, for an assembly of 16 mother-of-pearl beads, we would string 128 2mm beads.

To prevent your beads escaping from the string, make a small knot or loop at the end.

Now place 8 natural beads on one side of the first mother-of-pearl, then make a turn of the thread between the mother-of-pearl beads. Continue with 8 beads for the second mother-of-pearl, forming a spiral. (once to the right, once to the left...)

Continue to the end to dress all the mother-of-pearl beads.

To finish, secure the thread by wrapping it around the thread coming out of the last bead. Cut flush and flatten slightly with flat-nose pliers.

Repeat all the steps to make the second earring.

Your jewellery is finished!
